European Sculpture and Works of Art have been sold at 25 Blythe Road within Matthew Barton Ltd’s series of auctions since November 2009.
The European Sculptures and Works of Art Department deals with the wide gamut encompassed by this field from early sculpture through to 18th, 19th and 20th century works in bronze, marble, wood and other media, as well as stained glass, metalwork and treen.
Among recent highlights are: a painted limestone figure of St Eligius, perhaps Lorraine, early 16th century sold for £17,000; a set of four ivory figures of the seasons, workshop of Jean-Antoine Belleteste, (1731-1811), sold for £2,800; and a George II boxwood nutcracker, dated 1739, sold for £3,200
