An exciting opportunity has come up at Olympia Auctions! We are looking for a full time Cataloguer-Administrator for our Pictures Department.
Olympia Auctions’ department of Paintings, Works on Paper and Sculpture is looking to take on a combined cataloguer-administrator. The successful candidate will be part of a highly experienced team with an expanding calendar of sales, ranging from the innovative artists’ studios sale: ‘From the Studio: Works from Artists’ Estates’ to the twice-yearly sale of ‘Fine Paintings, Works on Paper and Sculpture’ and ‘Modern & Contemporary African and Middle Eastern Art’.
Responsibilities will be wide-ranging and touch on virtually every aspect of the sale process from chasing business and monitoring consignment enquiries, registering and cataloguing property, coordinating photography, researching, proofing, editing and laying out the catalogues, overseeing sale agreements, involvement in the hanging and taking down of auctions and post-sale administration, including clerking and online and telephone bidding as well as chasing payments. They will also be responsible for putting sales online and dealing with emails and telephone enquiries on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, have a background in paintings and works on paper to degree level, relish working across the full sweep of Western European Art (from Old Masters to Contemporary) and beyond (Middle Eastern & New World) in all media. They will have prior experience of the art market, be an able writer and researcher, fluent in at least one other European language, and happy to fit in and adapt to a busy team of specialists and support staff.
As well as paying great attention to detail, they will have excellent interpersonal skills and be very comfortable working in Excel and using cloud-based storage solutions. They will also have the necessary practical skills to manage wrapped and crated property, oversee careful storage of works and carry out condition reports.

Our internships are designed to offer practical work experience and training to undergraduates and post graduate students who have an interest in the arts and auction industry.
Successful applicants work alongside experienced specialists and administrators to contribute to departments sales and special projects throughout the year.
Every year, up to six internships are available through two London institutions, for tertiary students where in-work experience is a part of course of study.
