A COMPOSITE TRANSITIONAL DISH-HILT RAPIER, LATE 17TH CENTURY

with straight double-edged blade stamped ‘Andrea Ferara’ divided by a double eye-lash mark and with a series of decorative cross marks at each end on both faces at the forte (rubbed on one side, now illegible), iron hilt comprising dish-guard pierced and chased with a concentric arrangement of scrolls, straight quillons with bulbous terminals and quillon-block decorated en suite, associated spirally moulded pommel, and the grip bound with plaited with between iron collars, 82.7 cm blade
