□ A CHINESE COMPOSITE BOW, QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY; AND A CHINESE BOW BY YANG FUXI OF JU YUAN HAO

the first with reflexed limbs faced with horn at the front, the top painted with a brief inscription, associated bone string bridge (the lower missing), later grip, and the inner face applied with birch bark (losses); the second with reflexed limbs of wood faced with horn with sinew core and birch bark inner facing (extensive damage), wooden ears covered with snakeskin and painted with traditional characters and painted string bridges, the first: 105.0 cm (2)

Ju Yuan Hao is a bow making workshop in Beijing, founded in 1720 and working until 1966 when the shop was closed by the Red Guards. The brand was re-established by Yang Fuxi in 1998. See Dekker 2020.
