modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler (1706-1775) as a long-haired rustic standing before a tree stump holding an open gilt snuff box in his right hand, his left hand holding the pinch under his nose, wearing a black hat and neck-tie and yellow breeches, indecipherable impressed numbers, 18cm high, some restoration
Meissen produced a number of variants of this peasant figure: for another with a grape basket on his back, see Christie's, London, 28 November 2012, lot 116, and one as a grape-picker eating grapes at Christie's, London, 20 May 2014, lot 68.
