John Culme has worked with Matthew Barton at 25 Blythe Road since 2009.
John’s considerable experience in this field started in 1964 when he joined the Silver and Jewellery department at Sotheby’s Bond Street.
He is the author of a number of books, including the seminal work The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths, Jewellers and Allied Traders (1987), 19th Century Silver (1977), The Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor, with an introduction by Nicholas Rainer (1987), and British Silver Boxes, 1640-1840: The Lion Collection (2014). He has also published a number of articles on antique silver and related topics, specifically the history of the silver and jewellery trades in London from the end of the 17th century to the early 20th century. He is a liveryman of the Goldsmiths' Company.
